Coil handling with indoor cranes

Cranes are in use all over steelworks. The demands on the drive technology for the hoist and travel units on indoor cranes in this setting are extreme and include loads amounting to several dozen metric tons, high torques, and rapid handling speeds. The cranes must be ready for service around the clock. For example, if the cold rolling system requires primary material, no interruptions can be tolerated.

Coiling systems are to be found at the beginning and end of every strip processing line. During the coiling and decoiling the drives run at constantly changing torques from low to high speed.

It is crucially important that the tension of the steel strip is maintained at several points in the strip treatment line. Bridle rolls take care of this important task, and have very different torque requirements, depending on where they are positioned along the strip.

Strip storage for non-stop operations

Continuous operation is only possible on a strip processing line when the input and output strip storage systems work reliably. At the start of the strip processing line, the strip storage systems bridge the time for loading new coils and welding, and at the end of the line, the time for cutting and removing the finished coils. Without properly functioning strip storage systems, productivity would drop drastically. The correct drives ensure non-stop production.
